In North America, Spotify is trying to win over customers for its premium subscription: subscribers in the US have been receiving free access to the Hulu video streaming service for some time now. In Canada, there is now a Google Home Mini for free.

The offer should also be able to take advantage of existing premium customers. First and foremost, however, Spotify wants to convince users of the free version to switch to the premium subscription. For all those who do not yet have a smart speaker, the action is a good deal. The Google Home Mini costs in this country 59 euros, one month Spotify Premium, however, only 9.99 euros. In Canada, the relationship is similar.

Whether Spotify introduces this or a similar action in this country, remains to be seen. This is supported by the fact that Germany is an important market for the streaming service. On the other hand, the streaming provider in this country already has a very high market share anyway. In North America, on the other hand, competition from Apple Music is greater. According to the latest data, Apple Music now has more paying customers in the US than Spotify.

A premium subscription at Spotify offers several advantages over the free version. This includes, for example, the ability to download songs and listen offline. In addition, premium users can select songs on mobile devices as they wish.

With the free version of Spotify, this is not possible on smartphones. Instead, you are limited to playing in random order (“shuffle”). The fact that Spotify offers the Google Home Mini as a bonus, probably means that the streaming service will not publish its own smart speaker in the foreseeable future .
