If you shoot at other players in Apex Legends , sometimes hits on the upper body or on the arms cause no damage. This has Respwan now confirmed in the official Reddit forum for the game. The culprits are the hitboxes of the characters.
To understand: Hitboxes are simply the (invisible) area in which you can hit a character. Ideally, the hitbox matches the visible 3D model of an object. In “Apex Legends” this is currently not quite the case. The developers have already made some server-side adjustments to alleviate the problem. But it is not completely fixed yet.
Some characters are easier to hit
As Respawn writes on Reddit, developers are currently analyzing examples submitted by players. Based on this, the company wanted to optimize the hit boxes in “Apex Legends”. It’s not the first time the hitboxes hit the headlines. Some time ago it turned out that hits between the legs injured the robot Pathfinder . Respawn has now fixed the big differences between his Hitbox and his 3D model.
Still, some legends are still easier to hit than others. That is however also intended. Big characters like Caustic and Gibraltar are a simpler target than the petite Wraith, for example, who owns the smallest hit box in “Apex Legends”.
Respawn has adjusted the hitboxes of the heavyweights a bit. But it was primarily about an approximation to the respective 3D model. Instead, the developers are trying to make up for the disadvantages by adding buffs in other areas. For example, Caustics traps are now available more quickly after use than when launching “Apex Legends”.
